Rubio denounces Bondi Beach attack during phone call with Australian FM
“The United States strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack in Australia targeting a Hanukkah celebration hosted by Chabad-Lubavitch of Bond,” the statement said. “We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community and with the Australian people as we pray for the victims and their families.”
The statement also praised the efforts of Australian first responders and bystanders, noting their “heroic response.” It added, “No community should have to fear publicly celebrating their faith and traditions due to the threat of extremist violence and terror.”
The attack took place during a Hanukkah event organized by the Chabad-Lubavitch community. Police confirmed that one suspect, aged 50, died at the scene, while his 24-year-old son was injured and remains hospitalized.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the incident “an act of evil, antisemitism, terrorism” and emphasized that “there is no place for violence and hate” in the country.
